The new Disney live-action is ready to reach theaters, this time it is the sequel to Maleficent - 50%, 2014 film in which the origins of the villain of the animated classic Sleeping Beauty - 92%, the evil witch and fairy that gives the film its title.
Both the previous film and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil - 40% do not recreate the animated film since, as we anticipate, it gives prominence to the villain, however, some characteristics of the homonymous fairy tale of Charles Perrault and that of the Grimm brothers remain, but this is more like a sequel made to generate money and create relevance, since the original caused good opinions from the audience, but in reality it is just a false promise of greatness, the special effects are there, the amazing combating scenes are there, but it's all the outside, on this inside, there isn't the same substance as there was in the first one, you can watch it online to see this.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil has already been evaluated by some American critics and the verdict, as we could've imagined after watching the tape, could not be more overwhelming, for the bad.
The movie occurs approximately half a decade after the first one ends, and we have again the same primarily characters, this is to say; Maleficent, obviously played by Jolie, because this couldn't be in any other way or the movie couldn't even be the same, accompanied by his goddaughter Aurora, who finally plans to marry the Prince of the first movie (who is not played by the same actor, worth mentioning) Phillip.
We have the cute proposal, which is the moment that indicates us the time in which the story develops, and obviously, Aurora accepts happily, while Maleficent does not feel exact happiness. This is evident given her bad experience in the past with Aurora's father, but this all gets worse when Aurora's mother-in-law results to be a witch (not literally) that hates the world of the fairies and is not very kind with Maleficent.
This ignites a war not only between fairies and humans of the Queen Ingrith's kingdom, but between Aurora and Maleficent, since Ingrith manipulates Aurora to make her think that's Maleficent who doesn't want her to marry Phillip and be happy, because it's not her nature, nor does she believe in love after her aforementioned traumatic experience.
The plot of the film revolves in whether both Maleficent and Aurora will be able to understand each other as real families do, and if Aurora will see through her mother-in-law's manipulation but blinded by the love for her son it will not be an easy task, watch it online to find out how the story ends.
Showing a twist when putting Queen Ingrith as the antagonist, this sequel seemed novel because the conflict would branch out, in addition to that she intended to claim this story since the first installment fell short although Angelina Jolie will always be the one to play this character. But the result has not been good, even its rating has been lower compared to the first, the premise is good but the result does not inspire.
Critics seem to agree that Maleficent: Mistress of Evil has been unfortunate and unnecessary since it does not justify a plot that ends up being boring. Failures that not only were awarded to scriptwriters Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Noah Harpster and Linda Woolverton, but also to director Joachim Rønning, annealed for his film A Fantastic Journey - 84%, but also got very bad comments with Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge - 30%.
However, the most experienced critics agree that the glue that holds everything together is the dedicated performances of the most experienced actors, especially those of Jolie, Pfeiffer and obviously Fanning, they are truly committed to their respective roles, making us believe and feel that the movie is actually well made, although this might not be true, and make it worthwhile.
