The expected Frozen 2 for the critics has already been screened and the first reactions to the film point to an ideal sequel to one of the most viewed animated films in history. Watch it now to see how they did with this, one of the most awaited movies of the year.
Frozen was one of the big surprises of the last decade. The Disney film became a place in popular culture thanks to the adoration of millions of children around the world and the catchy song "Let it go", which was impossible to escape for the best part of a year. Written and co-directed by Jennifer Lee, Frozen raised over $1.2 billion at the box office and hundreds of millions in the home video market, so the sequel was inevitable.
While some analysts celebrate that the sequel retains charm and deepens the message of empowerment, friendship, and identity, others regret that although it will surely be adored by millions of children from an objective point of view it is an inferior film.
Frozen 2 takes place three years after the events of the original, and finds Elsa, already established as the Snow Queen, feeling a call from the far northern lands. Together with his sister Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, they embark on a journey beyond the limits of their kingdom to discover the origins of Elsa's magical powers.
Peter Deburge, of the Variety portal, highlights the value of the messages of the film and the subtlety of the Lee to transmit them, although the character design does not feel especially evolved. However that does not define the entire movie, there are also some other things on the movie apart from the fact that is clearly more mature, it got a bit of modernization, mostly in terms of the outfits of the characters, like the fact that Elsa and Anna wear pants, these are all things that might look insignificant but aren't, since Disney does not have a good fame of being progressive with its characters.
On the Metacritic portal, which generates an average from individual portal analysis scores worldwide, Frozen, the original movie took a good 74 with 43 processed analyzes, which is obviously a very high score. The sequel, however, with only 18 analyzes entered barely meets a 67, which is not necessarily bad but not as good as its predecessor, it's just a matter of time to see how the movie performs worldwide.
In 2013, 'Frozen' raised more than 1.2 billion at the box office worldwide. That made it - at that time - the fifth highest-grossing film in history, and number one in the world of animation, an impressive title for a movie that competes with other classic franchises like Toys Story and Nemo. The more than considerable figure, the 'Let it Go' and the two charismatic sisters Anna and Elsa made Disney not think too much to get to work with the second part. So it was. Three years ago, John Lasseter, the then creative director of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, made it public with Bob Iger, executive director of Walt Disney.
Frozen 2 seems to be darker and more serious than its predecessor, with much more intense moments and an interesting evolution of its characters, watch it online and you'll see what we're talking about. Some already warn of the return of one of the main features of the saga, the catchy songs that parents will be listening for months after going to see it with the family.
